3. Help you focus on the next stages of what to do to help get you seen/'heard and turn some heads!

how it works

why do you need it?

Runway Management offers bands/artists suggestions with the sole aim to help move the project forwards, onwards and upwards. Once we understand the bands' intentions, and what's already been (or not) achieved, plus where they want to go from there, we will on a monthly basis come up with a Monthly Agenda (or "Ma" as it's sometimes called... i.e. "Have you checked with Ma?" But just DON’T CALL ME MUM!).

This will include a bulletpointed list of suggestions, pointers, summing ups, and general things to do. It's a means of brainstorming ideas - with an objective 3rd party (us) - and throwing ideas into the pot for consideration by the band/artist - or simply coming up with game-plans to focus the next moves. Following the Ma, we continue the next month (and so on, till you tell us to stop!) eventually forming a timeline to the year end and beyond...

It's a great way to FOCUS the band's/artist's energies to help come up with everything from marketing, promotional ideas and concepts, as well as thinking about and approaching other aspects of the business side of the Music Business as well as helping to FOCUS and plan the creative processes so the band can get on with the music side of the Music Business at the same time and with a consolidated plan.

We also help you/the band/your ‘helpers’ co-ordinate the tasks needed to be completed. This takes the onus from you guys dishing out jobs to each other – you can stay friends - and if necessary - just hate me! ☺

When you are a Runway Management band/artist - you will also find yourself added to the Runway Mgt website and potentially on the receiving end of information gathered on events, offers, gigs, or anything else music related that our team spot on their 'radar'.

Reasons to do this – if not already convinced (plus a little history):
‘Back in the day’ – there were less bands/artists. Before the days of the net – and as it was less possible to get recordings done to any half decent standard, bands either didn’t exist – or would possibly be lucky enough to get themselves a manager (business manager…. managers didn’t ‘do’ anything… but did handle the business and help move them forward etc.) or get signed (to a label/publisher).

Labels took on the task to develop the investment of the band/artist they signed. This was the ‘need to raise profile’ stage you are at now.

The manager with the label’s A&R department would look at a business module for the band: bag the genre, work out where they could play (tour support input – i.e. CASH) who they could support (enlist an agent) alongside the marketing department, work out how they’ll sell them (promotion/pr/pluggers/videos etc./p.a.s (personal appearances) etc etc).

They’d pull in a producer they thought would produce the band’s ‘sound’ in keeping with the marketing plans.

They’d get in a stylist to ensure the band ‘looked the part’

The publisher would try and get the tracks ‘placed’ (tv/film… even covered!)

Then eventually – the track(s) would get released and the whole sales and marketing machine would go into operation – whilst simultaneously working on and planning the next phase to keep the thing flowing and alive and in the public eye!

Labels and publishers very very very rarely do this ‘development’ stage any more….. so YOU need to know how to do all this and be your own business as a band!
